Discover Music

As a music lover, I wonder what happens to forgotten/undiscovered music. So I decided that every now and then I would put a list of music out that people might not have discovered. I know that we are not that experimental with music—but there are some songs that I believe that we should try and listen to. If you don’t like it—that’s fine, but you should at least attempt to try to listen:

Jimi Hendrix

The first black outcast—misfit in black society: He created music that was true to himself—how can you deny that?

Outside the NeoSoul circle, black people don’t have a clue who she is—but if you’ve seen Love and Basketball, you’ve heard her—She sung the song “Fool of Me” during the infamous 4th quarter where Q and Monica play for each other’s love.

Once again the NeoSoul Circle—but these two young ladies have soul reminiscent of Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin—and if you don’t know who Nina Simone is, you really need to start looking in to black music—Seriously.

Outkast

Ok everyone who knows me knows how much I love Outkast—I have every album. But people only know them for their hits—which people still manage not to listen to them—Don’t believe me—actually listen to “Hey Ya”—I’ll bet you five dollars the second verse you never listened to, will shock you.

Curtis Mayfield

If you don’t know who he is, I am really ashamed to call your parents black (if you are black that is)—because they should have at least played “People Get Ready” or “ Diamond in the Back”—which Ludacris sampled for the remake. Monica sampled him too—for her song Dozen Roses.
